I suspect the quality of this video has a fair amount to do with Amazon crapping the bed and announcing these books before WotC were ready. this is what 2 days notice gets you. Weekend days, no less.

Yeah, I think they already had this planned. This whole 'week of announcements' and releases of cover images at different outlets, etc. Someone else is some other thread had the right of it-- the Amazon leak just before the big announcement is almost a tradition now.

And I thought the video was fine for what it was trying to accomplish-- a bit of fun silliness.

"I, Ellywick Tumblestrom . . . calls forth Legend Lore . . ."

". . . and there will be two portals with which mortals may use to enter it . . ."

Maybe this character only recently acquired proficiency in Common?

I don’t think the leak was intentional. The Roll20 patch being pulled right after the cover was leaked doesn’t sound like it was planned. More like WotC was set up for a contingency.

I believe that is Erika Fermina from Girls Guts Glory, but not 100% sure as I've only seen one or two games of theirs.

Video is no more or less cringe-y than similar cosplay character stuff from the Waterdeep, Descent Into Avernus, and Rime of the Frostmaiden DND Live launch events (actually, it's slightly less awkward than most of that stuff was). I don't see anything to get upset about. It's certainly not a new approach from WotC marketing.
