I'm just tired of having to endlessly explain the blindingly obvious. Don't use racist crap in the genre. The genre has been full of racist crap for a century. It's time to get rid of the crap. Endless naysaying, and gainsaying isn't productive and I can be fairly content knowing that those who don't think it matters aren't the ones calling the shots anymore.
We can agree to not use racist crap and disagree over whether some particular something is racist crap.

Because they don't want to continually have to defend themselves when people accuse them of being racist? ;)

At some point a person just has to decide whether or not those words are worth the bother. LOL.
To me that makes it even more imperative to stand my ground. It’s no longer just about this issue but how society as a whole functions. About whether we have rational discourse about an issue or whether it’s acceptable all debate is shut down by othering those with different opinions.

Well, let me ask you this... do you use the phrase 'N-word'?

I mean... it's the whole reason why we use 'N-word' now rather than the actual word when wanting to indicate it in a discussion. I mean, I could just use the word in this post and then defend myself by saying I'm trying to use it academically... but at some point it's just easier to use 'N-word' because I'm less inclined to get called out for using it no matter the reason.

If you really want to try and fight society on word useage, more power to ya... but at some point it's no longer worth the bother, isn't it?

(And no... I'm not equating the use of 'N-word' to the use of 'savage'... they are not equivalent... I'm just trying to make the point that we change our word usage all the time.)

I don’t get how that’s your takeaway. I just made the point that it was about more than word usage - it’s about whether we can have debate or whether it’s acceptable to ‘other’ people entirely out of the conversation.
