Something That Soured My Interest In The New Morbius Movie

Morrus

Well, that was fun

Didn't they make the Spider-man movies? At least the pre-Holland ones? There have been some decent flicks there (and some less good ones).

Spiderverse is very well regarded

So, for the first two Sam Raimi spider man movies, and for Spider-verse, Sony avoided exerting creative control over the production. But Sony stepped in on the third Raimi movie, and for the Andrew Garfield movies, and those... pretty much stank.

So, I maintain, Sony doesn't know how. They occasionally hire a director who does. When they stop listening to such a director, they get bad results. This, honestly, is why they have Marvel make the Spider-Man movies.

I'm surprised you didn't lead with Jared Leto, but this isn't the most inspiring track record, to be sure.

Gods of Egypt had its moments, but the whitewashed casting was really egregious, like a throwback to the 50s. Honestly, had it been something like "Gods of Glorb" (okay, maybe not glorb, but something not badly depicting a real world culture), it might have worked.

The screenwriters for Morbius (Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless) also wrote Dracula Untold and Gods of Egypt.

I'm bummed to hear the bad reviews of Morbius - he's one of my favorite Marvel characters, alongside Dr. Strange. But my hopes weren't high for it from the get-go.

So, I enjoyed it. I don't go into movies with an analytical eye, I either enjoyed the movie or I didn't.

Matt Smith clearly had some fun, Leto did a good job IMO, two post-credits that tie it into the MCU or tie the MCU into Sony's venom verse depending on how you look at it.
