D&D 5E D&D pateau-ing?

And even said “Here is information about Dungeons and Dragons”

I wonder if WotC paid for that?

I dont think so. The movie was in development hell since 4E was cancelled. Most of that was legal issues, then scripts bounced around, etc.. They didnt just decide to make this movie because D&D was suddenly popular to ride the wave.. GI Joe and Transformers didnt get films until they were on life supports as franchises. I cant speak to ponies, I don't know anything about that franchise. It would seem films are just as often used to jump start lifeless franchises.

The current movie has nothing to do with the last effort. There's new writers, new script, new directors, new actors, new studio, new casting agent, new everything.

I think what would be much more convincing is the review ratio monsters of the multiverse is getting on Amazon.

3.5 stars and only 304 reviews. But it’s also in the top 100 out of all books on Amazon US.

Though it being ranked that high with only 304 reviews seems like a down trend, maybe. Maybe not.

I think MotM is a bit of an oddity, there's not really anything new there. Asking people to pay for a rewrite of existing creatures when an anniversary edition is coming out in the not too distant future is asking a lot.

And later if standard fantasy starts to become boring by fault of the saturation? The "spin-off", the other lines with a special touch: Planescape, Dark Sun, Ravenloft+Innistrad, Spelljammer, Kaladesh, Red Steel/Savage Coast, New Capena. Oh! Now I was imagining an action-live version of Planescape with a lot of inspiration based in Jim Henson's Labyrinth.

Ok I was all for this and had a very witty reply about cannibal halflings played by fraggles and imagining a CGI sorcerer-king David Bowie doing a musical number on top of a ziggurat but then I realised you had said Planescape not Dark Sun.

People are paying for it. A lot of them. The reviews do not seem as good as what I think is normal however. Not in quantity nor in rating.

But people are buying it.

There's a lot of angry 1 star reviews on this book. The ML powered popular phrase picker for the review aggregator has singled out "nothing new," "waste of money," and "cash crab" as popular phrases in the reviews. If anything, it looks like there's a passionate fan community out there that is more offended by the lack of new material rather than being apathetic to buying new stuff.

It was bound to happen eventually. As I've said before, we have no idea how the huge influx of new players D&D has received recently will react to a corporate request to re-buy the core books. It should be a good show at least.
