No dnd beyond connect is surprising. I would think the main purpose of this set is to get new players into dnd beyond, which would especially make sense if there are no character creation rules here

Any major updates/changes would most likely happen in a UA and not a simple starter kit. So, I wasn't expecting that. Would've been cool though.

The essentials kit has a code for a half off PHB and an extension of the adventure on dnd beyond. It also has a dm screen, cards for npcs and conditions and magic items, a fold out map, and full rules for character creation. And I think they sold that at target?

They did, it was also a Target exclusive too.

It was also a very rush rush job, like crazy fast, and they did such a great job, but with Target selling PHBs and other things I wonder if they objected to the ddb codes.

But I dint know anything, just wondering out loud.

This set would have been completed and sent off for production before the DDB sale went through.

I expect the next Starter Set will have DDB integration.
