Remember that those are starter set character sheets, they have also to contain level up informations. I don't think traits and inspiration will go in 2024.

The real change I would have love to see is a better equipment box, with space for encumbrance for item and a checkbox space for attunement.

The 2014 Starter Set includes them, prominently, and recent releases have started dropping then already.

They may have found in practice that people.prefer that to be less mechanical and more free-form.

I wouldn't read that much into it. These aren't "normal" character sheets. For example, the weapon and equipment areas are very static and not the way you'd ever do them for a regular character. The set lacks character generation entirely; arguably the most important thing about Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws is choosing your own to help you figure out what kind of character you want to play - not in performing pre-assigned Ideals, Bonds, and Traits from a pre-gen sheet.

However, I do think the absence of Inspiration is more telling, since including Inspiration on the character sheet and in the rules book would have taken up very little real estate.

I think itmore telling that Traits, Ideals,Bonds, and Flaws are missing from Strixhaven, as well as the DragonLance and Planescape Unearthed Arcana. That's the two most recently published products that would have them dropping them, and no indication of them in UA testing for 2 or 3 upcoming products.

Reasonable! Given how easily ignored it seems to be, it's just as easy to put back in.
