You'll let us add on player's books in the KS, right?
And... any idea when you might be ready to go with this?
Here are the rewards. Keeping it easy. Yes, that's only $1 for PDFs of both versions, and the Tomb of Entropy level 1-3 adventure as well. Hardcover rewards include digital ones. Looking to launch Tuesday ;) Prelaunch page is here.

I see you're calling this a "true basic version of the 5E ruleset" which really isn't quite accurate IMO. If you recall, I asked you about this before, if it was a basic primer for 5E or more "your own thing"? At this point, I feel you've added and or modified enough content you really shouldn't headline it as a "true basic version of the 5E ruleset".

Just my two cents about that. :)

Otherwise, of course it all looks stellar still and I'm glad this is working out so well. :D

It's less "truly 5e" and more "truly basic". Word order and all that ;)

Great!

Here are the rewards. Keeping it easy. …

In addition to those, I would like to buy multiple add-on player’s books at $X dollars each, if you are willing to sell them?

I like “truly basic.” It's a good description of B&B. It might even be a better phrase than the “true basic” currently on your KS placeholder page?

“True basic” 5e would seem (to me) to be the thing titled “D&D Basic Rules” (https://dnd.wizards.com/what-is-dnd/basic-rules)… which is remarkably NOT “truly basic.” So "truly basic" might be a good contrast between B&B and Basic 5e?

It's been a while since the last update. I think we're on the final stretch now of being complete. The release of the expert playtest really helped identify the go-forward approach in 5e, and so making a basic version that aligns somewhat with those philosophies is achievable.

There are several minor changes throughout the books, but the big changes were to the Fighter and Expert classes. Fighting Styles (fighter) and specialties (experts) help give some flexibility while keeping it simple. Think sub-class lite. And some player-friendly things were added (like pre-generated spell lists based on archetype).

I've also recently gotten back new artwork for the GM's guide. I felt it deserved a custom commission rather than stock art or AI art, and I wanted a 4th wall approach to it.

You can download the player's guide here and see the changes.

Rod,

I just wanted to point out a possible image formatting issue I came across with your preview pdf.

I printed out several pages from the pdf yesterday, and on my home printout there were faintly-colored rectangular boxes around the irregular-shaped art (see attached images).

As for the text, I really like your player-facing rules. I’m hoping to hook my 10-year-old into playing through these. 🤞

That's weird. While I haven't printed out the PDFs, I have received the printed proof copies and that doesn't happen (which you can see in the video). I wonder why the pdf would do that, when the images are transparent backgrounds. For example, a screen shot in photoshop where you can see there isn't a background that should appear in the printed version.

I dunno why it came out that way, either. FWIW (IIRC) I opened the pdf in Google Chrome, and printed to my HP laser printer via the standard Windows 10 printing pop-up, with default print settings (except that I “scale[d] to fit page” up to 8.5x11 paper).

When I get a chance I’ll try printing via an alternate route or three.
