Magical Schools for the Greater Good

, other than Earthsea, Diskworld and The Magicians TV series, I don’t recall encountering formal schools of magic in fantasy fiction beyond the implications that some exist/existed in a given setting.

In the 80s, the Dragonlance Towers of High Sorcery (Hickmans & Weiss) and the Riftwar Cycle's Kelewan Assembly (Feist) were school, political body, and test of worthiness all rolled up into one.
 


Rothfuss's "Name of the WInd" is set in a magic school. I just wish I liked the second book anywhere near as much as I liked the first. "The Slow Regard of Silent Things" is set there too, but not really.
