D&D (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Oh god yep I hate the stupidly oversized weapons trope which constantly goes around. People keep telling me to get monster hunter, but I look at it and see some guy swinging a sword 3 times as big as himself and I'm like "no thanks"
if we accept that physics works the same way as on planet earth, then a medium size human cannot fight with 150kg sword no matter their strength score.

Writing and speaking words are actions. Design choices are actions resulting from the preferences of the designer, and are not rooted in truth, rather the designers subjective desires. Nothing more, nothing less. And if their design choices say that some people have penalties/limitations based on inalienable qualities like on gender, that 100% reflects their preferences. There are words that describe those perspectives and preferences.

The European witch craze was one of my favorite periods to read about so it often makes it’s way into my campaigns
My senior capstone class for histor was all about the historiography of witchcraft. Once our professor asked if witchcraft was a real crime and I got some funny looks from the class when I answered in the affirmative. But you can quite clearly see that the Scottish Witchcraft Act of 1563 clearly outlawed witchcraft, sorcery, and necromancy. So, yes, it was a crime.

I've had too many friends directly affected and physically harmed by intolerance and the various isms to really find it a source of amusement. Fantasy can be a place to explore complicated and unpleasant things but the default needs to be open so such exploration is strictly voluntary.
When does the voluntary aspect kick in? If it's in the book, and you choose to pick up the book, you're volunteering for it. Right?

I totally feel your pain about loved ones being hurt by intolerance. I am right there with you. And I absolutely advocate for that tolerant baseline.
But I do find joy, and some degree of purpose, in fighting intolerance. Tooth and nail. Intolerance of intolerance is a valid moral position, IMHO.

It's okay to call them savages if their preferred model of living is to scale my walls, steal my stuff, and kill my family, right?
Those individuals, sure.

If you then call all memebers of the same ethno-cultural group, or the same religion (this gets muddied by the absurdity of how evil gods work in D&D), etc, then no.

And of course some groups self identify as Heathens (I refuse, but I won’t begrudge my fellows reclamation of a term), and Barbarian is often used as a familiar joke, but I’m not sure it’s a bad idea to examine whether or not that just serves to normalize the thinking that anyone who does thing differently on a cultural level is a lesser sort of person. I’m not convinced that jokes between couples like that matter, but 🤷‍♂️

I mean, my mom still uses ablest slurs and…hand motions every time she does soemthing dumb or forgets something or fails to understand a social nuance. It annoys me because it’s th same jokes I endured as a kid, but whatever she’s 60 years old and lives like a hermit what am I gonna do?

But that doesn’t mean I’ll tolerate that language in media I consume.
