A better term

In my country we haven't even been able to drop the term FRP, so branding away from TTRPGs almost feels impossible to me.

That said, I'm actually a fan of Retired Adventurer's term "Adventure Games", even if it may get confused with the same video game genre.

I miss those Sierra classics!

Adventure Gaming was a magazine, and was running the spectrum of small unit games to RPGs, and also computer games. You can thank Tim Kask (TSR alumnus) for that conflation.

Some of the games that it applied to don't even fit in that above broad spectrum.... AH's Dune (early lockdown rerelease by GF9) has some very minor RPish elements, but is VERY clearly a semi-abstract wargame with individual leaders...

Wuthering Heights, Cthulhu Dark, Apocalypse World and In A Wicked Age are all TTRPGs, but none is an adventure game, at least by default.
I've never gotten the chance to play it, but In A Wicked Age sure reads like it would lend itself well to adventure! Though probably not a classic dungeon crawl, no.
