Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder To Get New Core Rulebooks Soon

It's not just D&D that's getting a 'revised' set of core books--Pathfinder is also getting 'remastered' books! The core rulebooks are being replaced by a new set of books, with new names, but like D&D it is being reiterated that this is not a new edition--"With the exception of a few minor variations in terminology and a slightly different mix of monsters, spells, and magic items, the rules remain largely unchanged."

The existing Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Gamemastery Guide, Bestiary, and Advanced Player’s Guide are being replaced with Pathfinder Player Core, Pathfinder GM Core, Pathfinder Monster Core, and Pathfinder Player Core 2.

These books appear to focus on re-organization and consolidation of existing material rather than substantive changes. They also represent Paizo's move away from the Open Gaming License and towards the new Open RPG Creative (ORC) license. Paizo says "This transition will result in a few minor modifications to the Pathfinder Second Edition system, notably the removal of alignment and a small number of nostalgic creatures, spells, and magic items exclusive to the OGL. These elements remain a part of the corpus of Pathfinder Second Edition rules for those who still want them, and are fully compatible with the new remastered rules, but will not appear in future Pathfinder releases."

i am curious as to how ability scores -> ability modifiers will interact with ability boosts to scores (or, well, modifiers now) of 18 (+4) or higher, since in regular pf2e they count as a +1 to the score instead of a +2, which means you need 2 boosts to increase the modifier. are you gonna have to mark half-boosted modifiers with a .5 now? that'd be kind of silly.

I watched the stream, apparently (to quote directly) there's a plan in place for that, where the underlying math remains the same, but they haven't told us what it is. Maybe you just track the boosts separately, and then they become a modifier increase when you have enough?

Yeah I could see little bubbles next to the mod on the character sheet you tic off as you increase. Not exactly neat, but not difficult either.

Doing half-increases was basically the only reason for keeping ability scores. Kind of funny that moving over to no ability scores would almost be better for D&D at this point than Pathfinder.

eugh, i hope not. that's just clumsy. maybe they'll make it so you can only bump a modifier to +5 or higher every 10 levels instead of every 5? that might be hard to track though.

Yeah, I don't see the big deal about having a +4.5 or +4 with a marker next to it. It's not super elegant, but I think it's more elegant than ability scores.

Yeah .5 rounded down works for me, I was thinking it's not unlike what Chronicles of Darkness does with beats, which is what I've been reading lately-- you'd collect boosts and then spend them when you have enough to buy the stat you want, though maybe that's a little unintuitive to keep them separate the way pf2e does.

So, does this mean the Tian Xia books are/gonna be delayed since the Remastered Core set is coming? I've yet to dip my feet into Pathfinder 2E (yet) but I was planning on getting that along with the Ancestry Guide (Kitsune), the Gears and Guns (Automatons) and a few others.
