No, but there are civil procedures and laws you can rely on to enforce your ownership and control of a product.

If a box falls out of my companies truck, and you pick it up, you currently have something you are not authorized to have. You are not 'stealing' or 'breaking the law' because those are criminal issues but you 100% are in the realm of civil action.

If someone drops their property, and you pick it up, it does not mean that you instantly have the right to possess it.

He purchased a product and was sent the wrong one. He did not randomly pick something up off the street.

Are we just inventing ways to demonize this guy now? Is his day job as a baby seal clubber? Does he chew with his mouth open?

They don't own the product. They sold it to a distributor who sold it to a retailer who sold it to him.

I'm not demonizing him - I'm saying that even with that mistake WotC has civil legal options for dealing with that sort of mistake and demanding the return of that property is well within that scope.

Why don't you dial up an attorney who deals in commercial IP and corporate law and see whether or not he thinks this is egregious or not.
If the dude did not break the law, and that is apparently all that matters, news flash: neither did WotC.

No. but I think there is honest debate about what their intent was and whether it was malicious or just incompetently executed.

Dictionary definition of malicious "full of, characterized by, or showing malice; intentionally harmful; spiteful:" would tell me that the answer is no. Stupidly misunderstanding the community and trying to get money from people making significant amounts of money off WOTC's IP, sure.

It was also never actually implemented. Doesn't make it right but I also give some credit to the people inside WOTC, the cooler heads that listened to the internal and external feedback and shut it down.

Comparing what he did -- buying MTG cards -- to picking up something that fell off a truck and keeping it without paying for it is what I was referencing.

It's also not clear if WOTC knew that the guy received the product because of a shipping error or if they suspected theft (which has happened previously). The streamer presumably knew he should not have had the product.
