D&D (2024) What would change for you if Wizards started calling it 6E?

yes, the fact that they are about to split the fan base with 2024 and 2014 rules
You keep insisting it will split the fan base, I don't think it will. I guess we will find out next year won't we?
This is pretty much where the rubber will hit the road with respect to the backward compatibility of the updated rules and why, I believe, it would be a mistake for Wizards to identify the new books or think of them as a new edition. The more compatible the rules and features, the less likelihood of splitting the existing fan base in a significant and damaging way. If they sell it as an update, not a significant edition change, and the market agrees, then things should be pretty copacetic (excepting, again, the usual suspects dodging pieces of falling sky).

this is why this topic is such a hot button... as we figure out the bold part
Does the Market Agree?

We obviously don't have any hard data yet, everything here is just people stating there opinions. However the OneD&D playtest has been incredibly popular, with more people downloading the 1st packet than all of the D&DNext playtest. It's not hard proof, but it is a pretty good indicator that there is a lot of interest in it.

we will know in two years, anyone discussing this now does not really know, they at best talk about their opinion

okay so no data... but we can talk about it, that is what enworld is for right?

I'm sure there are some people who will continue to use 5e, just as there are people who continued to use 3.0 instead of 3.5 or 1e instead of 2e. But I'm not really sure it's going to "divide the fan base" the way AD&D vs d20 D&D did. For one, there's very little to suggest that the 5e D&D modules won't work with One D&D and that One D&D modules won't work with 5e D&D. The same is true for monster books. I know when we played 2e AD&D we still mostly played 1e modules because that's what we had.

didn't they sell more 4e books then 3e?

They did! It just cost them a lot more to do it. If you used to spend $30 to make $300, and now you spend $350 to make $450, it's hard to feel like you had a good idea. I'm sure there are market conditions where that does make sense. But if you're doing that and your competition that's selling your old model is booming like Paizo was?

I have never said you can't talk about it, or tried to stop you. I just think you are wrong, and disagreed with what you said.

You have every right to post your opinion here, just like I have every right to disagree with you. Just because I disagree with you , it doesn't mean I am trying to silence you.

clearly we do, not sure why you are asking whether you can.

I only question whether there is any point to it, everything has already been said by almost everyone, but don’t let that stop you ;)
