That really would be a weird alternate universe since Paizo partly justified sticking with 3.5's chassis because they didn't think they could tell the stories they wanted to with 4e. It took them a decade to come around to the idea that maybe they could.

...maybe...

However, and I stress that my sample size is still small, having picked up and read some of the PF2 modules and APs, I'm not convinced they were wrong in their initial assessment. I very much don't feel they are the same or as good as they used to be in the PF1 days.
I think the devs spend more time with society players and consider them more profitable so thier game seems to be turning into one focused only on melee type's and thier support cast. If that is true and they make more money with those guys good for them.

The idea that PF2 is just 4E is the weirdest take.

See, that was an accusation lobbed at WotC when they put out 4e and I'm not sure it tracks. I've played a fair amount of Pathfinder Society and I'd be surprised if the design direction to go in PF2's direction came from it.

I cold be wrong. I do have friends that are avid society members and it does seem whatever society wants becomes the game rules. But I don't sit in meetings so that's just armchair observation.
