For Celsius vs. Fahrenheit, I'd say it does. I can feel and appreciate the difference between two temperatures expressed in Fahrenheit that are the same temperature, officially, in Celsius.
they are obviously not the same in Celsius, they just have decimals… basically what you are saying is you can feel the difference of one degree Fahrenheit, because if you could only feel two, then you also can feel one degree Celsius ;)

I trust, for consistency's sake, that you bear the same hatred for """Tolkieneqsue""" fantasy, """medieval""" fantasy, and other popular but ultimately shallow genres/aesthetics?

If not, singling out steampunk would be, at the very least, kind of weird.
The biggest problem with "steampunk" is that it is, generally speaking, not at all "punk." it isn't about how technology oppresses people or how those people fight back. It is about elves with steam powered jetpacks, or whatever.

Irrational consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. I don't feel the same about fantasy as a genre. The only nice thing I can say about Steampunk is that some of the cosplayers put together some great looking outfits.

Singling out Steampunk is the opposite of weird.
