In fairness, the martial/caster divide arguments usually have as much to do with the martial/caster divide ... as the argument about pineapple topping on pizza has to do with putting pineapples on pizza.

What do you think they're actually about then?

Yes, what do you mean Snarf? This definitely needs another thread ;)

Oh, H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS to the NO!

I wouldn't touch that with a 10' pole.

Although I might volunteer the Bard to jump up and down on that topic.

Now come on Snarf. You just claimed that people aren't actually fighting about the martial/caster divide when they fight about the martial/caster divide. Are you really going to leave it at that, no explanation?

Probably that a lot of the discourse is focused on imagined problems rather than observed ones.

Ive noticed a lot of the time the people that get really incensed by the issue are essentially telegraphing, if not outright saying, that they have very toxic, selfish people at their tables.

Which, of course, can't actually be true to life, which means theres some degree of hyperbole thats being layered in.

A good example of how that plays out is that depending on who you ask, Martials are either worthless altogether or only worthless out of combat.

Those are two very different assessments, and while true enough how a DM or a table runs their game can be a big influence on this, I think these disparate assessments are too common to be explained by mere table variance.
