So every spellcaster automatically recognizes the "mystic words" of any spell, whether they know it or not? And nothing, not even, say, a magic mouth, could utter verbal components to fool an enemy into thinking a spell is being cast?

Seems like a stretch to ensure that counterspell remains a viable spell.
WotC made the stretch, not me. And it's not just counterspell, but also the two sorcerer abilities that allowing whispered spells steps on the toes of.

Magic Mouth doesn't work, though. It's not someone visibly casting the spell and a verbal only spell still needs to be cast by someone the counterspeller can see.

They are all innate casters. So they are nit learnt wozards but sorcerers. Probably sorcerer wizard multiclasses.
No. They have magic talent innately, not the ability to cast spells intuitively with no training like sorcerers. They go to school to learn specific incantations and somatic components which they use via their wand focus. That's wizardry.

That said, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. :P

The original UK title was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone- but I'm not sure that makes it any better.

Harry Potter wizards are D&D sorcerer with a special bloodline/origin that lets you cast spells you don't know with a Dex check and Cha check.

Basically you cast an sorcerer spell by making both a Sleight of Hand (Dex) and Performance (Cha) check vs the 15+ the spell's level.

This confuses me.
