D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

I think this will happen soon. MBA’s at Hasbro like to push things. And MBA’s recurring revenue like subscriptions.

Gift Cards that most people never redeem before they expire would also make MBA’s happy - digital gift cards on DDB will happen if they haven’t already.

They've made it illegal, in Canada anyway, for gift cards to have expiry dates.

Not sure how/if it applies to virtual gift cards, that's for the courts to decide someday.

I just don't like when arguments are presented in black and white terms, as if, in this case, it is a battle between digital and print media, and you can't have both. You can and we do, and we will for the foreseeable future. I love the ways that DDB has made it so much easier to prep and play D&D, but I also love spending hours making elaborate sets and painting miniatures. I love flipping through the Monster Manual on my patio.

We aren't being forced to choose between one thing or the other.

Well, yes we are.

If our DM decides to take the game online my choices are to either play online (not at all my preference) or drop out.

90% of people don't read patch notes and wont realize it.

They'll realize it fast enough when the DM thinks a rule says one thing (because it did say that last week) and a player logs on to DDB and shows it saying another thing today.

There's a middle ground, you know; PDFs that get updates. That way you can replace or not to suit yourself.

But again the point is that D&D can and would finally be able to be patched after Year 1.

How about I just don't deal with errata unless I want to, and then I just incorporate it into my houserule doc? Is there a reason I must be beholden to WotC's errata whims? Who's to say I agree with their decisions?
