WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

WotC has posted a 19-minute video telling you 'everything you need to know' about Vecna: Eve Of Ruin.
  • Starts at 10th level, goes to 20th.
  • Classic villains and setting, famous characters, D&D's legacy.
  • Vecna wants to become the supreme being of the multiverse.
  • Vecna is a god of secrets and secrets and the power of secrets are a theme throughout the book.
  • A mechanical subsystem for using the power of secrets during combat.
  • Going back to Ravenloft, the Nine Hells, places where 5th Edition has been in the last 10 years.
  • It would be a fun 'meta experience' for players to visit locations they remember lore about.
  • Finding pieces of the Rod of Seven Parts, pieces throughout the multiverse.
  • Each piece in one of seven distinct planes or settings.
  • Allustriel Silverhand has noticed something is wrong, puts call out to Tasha and Mordenkainen, who come to her sanctum in Sigil.
  • The (10th level) PCs are fated to confront Vecna.
  • Lord Soth and Strahd show up. Tiamat is mentioned but doesn't appear 'on screen'.
  • Twists, turns, spoilers.
  • It's a 'love letter to D&D'.

Yea. That’s an interesting little twist they have there and I don’t get it.
They kind of danced around spoiling Vecna's exact plan, but...this is goojg to be the culmination of all those freaking obelisk plot hooks. And those obelisks are time manipulation devices. To fight Vecna rewriting history through the Obelisks, the good guys will need their own timey-whiney angle.

I will be surprised if Miska The Spider-Wolf doesn't get one. Especially considering the official new art(if he ever had art to begin with from prior editions). Given the history between Miska and The Rod of Seven Pieces it would seem likely it will happen though.
You must not be familiar with The Rod of Seven Parts?

As for Tasha, I want the PCs to go back in time/through the multiverse to a Gencon where Gary first meets the giggling lil' one.

What if Kas the vampire reappear? And possibly he does "that" again.
I suspect the sad-looking dude in plate armor and holding a sword that was the final image shown in the video is Kas.

Nah, I would bet more on Bane, Bhaal, and/or Myrkul. They've been setting them up to be foes since Avernus, stating they aren't "full" gods (in other words, they're killable by characters). Bhaal would seem to be the most likely, given his symbol appearing on the alt cover (which doubles for Avernus being in the book as well), but any or all of the Dead Three could work.
Yeah, I wonder if maybe one of the twists involves defeating the Dead Three and getting Jergal - the last Spell Weaver - to come back to help with the obelisks his people made to help defeat Vecna. Or something along those lines.

And then Plot Twist-Miska The Wolf Spider kills Vecna and becomes the final boss of Eve of Ruin. This in turn causes OneD&D to happen.

If there's minis, they've certainly got stats. You don't make minis of creatures that aren't going on the battlefield.
Tell that to 5e Spelljammer- Wizkids must've been annoyed that some of the minis they made ended up not as useful as planned and some ended up not included in the adventure at all, like the third Astral Elf royal that's included in the set box. I forget his name, he had adventure art and everything.

I wonder if we'd have gotten a good Spelljammer release if the Dragonlance lawsuit hadn't been resolved when it was...

And with Jergal (and the Dead Three) being back in the spotlight because of BG3, it would definitely be a good time to utilize them in an adventure. In fact, their inclusion might have been to coordinate a bit with BG3 (although nine months later is a bit of a delay, but it's hard to coordinate written adventures with a video game release, as Descent to Avernus has shown).

Been playing D&D since 2E and read a lot of lore and I don't think I ever heard of Tasha until 5E brought her up. Not to say she wasn't important before Im just saying...

They could easily have promoted Dalamar or hell even Raistlin or hey Alustial Silverhand (or any of the Seven Sisters) or any other of more famous NPCs and they would now be "the popular one". She's popular because WotC put her in the spotlight recently. Pretty easy choice to make who to include when you only promote like 2 choices for wizards in Faerun.
This is exactly what I'm trying to say, thank you.
