This looks like fun. If nothing else, these recent shows have given us some gorgeous glowing colored laser swords!

I'm not hugely familiar with the High Republic era, since I don't read SW novels or comics, so this will be fun for me, I think.

Nice also to see more diversity (including more aliens) in the cast.

Don't think you're missing much with the high republic stuff.

Still good to get away from Skywalkers. You don't need them for a good SW story (eg Andor. KotOR, Rogue One).

Them again Book of Boba Fett......

If it's half as good as Andor, I'm in like Flint. Wonder who the protagonist is. I'm totally ignorant of the New Republic era.

High Republic, not New Republic. High Republic is 500-100 BBY, so ends about 70 years before the original trilogy. This show is 100 years before the start of the prequel trilogy, so around 130 BBY, or about 30 years before the end of the High Republic period. New Republic is Mandalorian and sequel trilogy time period.

The main protagonist is a Jedi Master played by that guy from Squid Game. Carrie-Anne Moss also plays a Jedi Master.

I saw that Joonas Suotamo is in it, and there's a brief glimpse of a wookiee in the trailer ... apparently he's playing a wookiee Jedi!

Yes, there have been a few Wookiee Jedi in the past. The cartoon Young Jedi Adventures is also set in the High Republic, but another 100 years or so before The Acolyte, and is basically canon, or at least the characters and background events are, even if the silliness is not. Anyway, one episode involved the younglings helping a young Wookie padawan. I just checked names of the characters and they are not the same, which would have been interesting, since the lifespan of a Wookiee makes it possible.
