D&D (2024) WotC has called the new ruleset 5.2. Why don't we?

To add to this, the 2014 SRD was called 5.1

No one has ever called the 2014 rules 5.1e D&D. That’s silly. IMO, calling the 2024 rules 5.2e is equally silly.

It is, but people are going to call it something. Might as well be this.

This is why dumping the One D&D was a mistake, it was a centralized name everyone was using for it, now no one agrees and folks use dozens of names.

WotC obviously doesn't want it to have its own name. They want you to call it D&D or 5E, just names that are already in use.

What will you call 5.3, 5.4, or the 5.5 SRD releases...?

Nobody has really called it anything in the groups I frequent. It's just "Oh, the SRD got updated" and everyone keeps calling it the SRD.

Some of us know the specific iterations, but it's not discussed unless we get into the nitty gritty.
