Assuming everyone who went to GenCon wanting to buy one was able to get one, I'd agree. But given that's probably not true, it would have been nice if the people not interested in actually keeping the books for themselves let people who actually wanted to have the book buy them. People who also paid to travel to GenCon and hoped to buy a copy.

I think it's a bit of "capitalism bad" type of people who don't understand everything that is made in this world is made because of self interest.

Sure I get that. I think it's just something I am used to. All concerts, sporting events, pretty much anything in limited supply and high demand works this way.
As an odd example of an organization trying to make an effort to change the NBA basketball team the LA Clippers, starting next season, is selling special good seats to their games at a lower price, that are held aside to sell only to certified actual Clippers fans. The certification method is rationally done, and the tickets are non-transferrable, with seating first-come first-serve for each game.
WOTC I suppose could try something like that, but certification for that would be more difficult. Not sure...longstanding EnWorld membership? Longstanding DNDBeyond account?

It could be that some of the people who went through all of that monetary trouble to get their hands on a 2024 PHB were hoping on getting one and using it in their RPG sessions. Being one of the first to get and own it would be worth it in the eyes of some fans. More so than selling it on eBay.

Undeniably, but my take away is 'people are stupid'. Thats a whole lot of money for something that is not going to be limited at all.

Sure, IMO it's stupid to pay a $100 premium to get the new PHB a few weeks early.
But IMO what's unethical is telling people what they can do with their legally obtained property. "You got something limited and now you can't sell it because someone is willing to pay you a bunch of money for it."
