D&D (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

D&D Beyond has announced how the transition to the new 2024 edition will work on the platform, and how legacy access to the 2014 version of D&D will be implemented.

• You will still be able to access the 2014 Basic Rules and core rulebooks.
• You will still be able to make characters using the 2014 Player's Handbook.
• Existing home-brew content will not be impacted.
• These 2014 rules will be accessible and will be marked with a 'legacy' badge: classes, subclasses, species, backgrounds, feats, monsters.
• Tooltips will reflect the 2024 rules.
• Monster stat blocks will be updated to 2024.
• There will be terminology changes (Heroic Inspiration, Species, etc.)

Because when you purchased content on DDB, it explicitly states that you have access to it via the toolset and they are taking that away.

Yes, but the person I was quoting was stating they (spells and so on) would be outright gone. Which they won't be. Which is my point.

No it's a win for some customers.

I don't think some of the 2024 rules will be free on DNDB PC builder now.

You realize the information will still be there if you bought it previously, right? You aren't loosing anything other than tooltips and links. If you really need that 2014 version of the spell, keep the spell section of the 2014 PHB compendium (which, I repeat, will still be there unchanged, just marked as legacy) open in a separate tab, and the old spell will still be findable right there.

Yet not available via the character sheet, which is the primary reason people purchased on DDB.

In fact, it was the only reason to use DDB.

It is not just spells but every class that used them such as Warlock invocations.
