Pulling out any remotely evil-adjacent subclass* from the PHB and filling it with images of shiny happy people holding hands (people, happy people) is a conscious branding attempt.

* minus the assassin, for some strange reason. I was sure that slot would be going to the swashbuckler.
That seems more than a bit of a stretch. Assassin is still there, as you point out. So is the vengeance paladin, the fiend and great old one warlocks, and they even added the aberrant sorcerer. The only ‘evil-adjacent’ subclass removed between the 2014 PHB and the new one is necromancer, and heaven knows we were always going to see some of the wizard subclasses trimmed.

(And I still think swashbuckler should have been in ahead of soulknife…)

Sorry, but this art is just plain awful. Please tell me these are works in progress.
Some of it is unquestionably early/concept digital art, so I wouldn't worry too much there.

I do worry slightly about the very first piece because it's so extremely twee and magic-heavy, but given it's probably some specific city (though I know not which), that's likely less bad. I do hope floating castles/towers/etc. don't become the "norm" for the FR (they should be common only in the past, in Netheril).

Thanks for the link….currently $35 for 368 is a good deal. I haven’t ordered it yet but I may before its release in October.
EDIT: LOL ignore me you just didn't quote it and it's on the previous page!

I am not sure I agree with the hot take. DL certainly sold a metric ton of books and a lot less TTRPG content, but the other two?

Also, how do you market these books to non-players? Why would they care about subclasses etc. Not sure either book really works for them, maybe this would be more for them

They don't need to care about the mechanics, although video game fans might care because of BG3 mods will eventually be done adding them to the game, but the readers, they come for the LORE!

The city with floating islands is likely Airspur that had been famous for them.

So what Realms Shaking Event do you think they will use this time to justify the setting changes they plan to do to FR?

Something new and exciting or while they just still use the Sundering which never got a proper book yet? Perhaps they will use Vecna's evil attempt at taking over the multiverse this time. Or the events in BG3.

Both Forgotten Realms has well over 300 novels which have sold tens of millions of copies. It's had dozens of video games. Mystara had about 15 novels I think so it's less true for Mystara, and a video game or two.
