Only saw the first episode last night -- we watched it after hours of playing the new WoW expansion -- but I liked the focus on Sauron, the key back story for Alar and showing why the elves would put on -- and continue to carry -- rings that were designed by Sauron.

All very effective, I thought.

I think the Stranger and the Dark Wizard are both Blue Wizards. They were friends but one became evil and did something to banish the other, who was sent back to Middle-Earth to combat him.

This season is much better. I like Sauron as the Master Deceiver.

Just watched the first episode. Overall, good. Worth watching. A bit slow.

I enjoy watching all the scenes of "The proto-hobbit and the Istari". They're some of the most entertaining bits of the show. But the mystery of "Who will the Istari turn out to be?" is amazingly unappealing to me. There is no reveal that will make these scenes better, but there are options that will make them worse; I'm really hoping it doesn't get dragged out too much longer.

Kinda disappointing to see Sauron taken out by a dozen orcs.

Sauron was an absolutely powerful entity, even at the end of the 1st Age. He wasn't called "the Necromancer" for nothing, he could weave magic and shapeshift into giant bats and wolves at will and probably wouldn't have needed co firmation/coronation by mere Orcs.
I agree. It wasn't like the orcs were voting for Sauron to lead them: he was the right hand of Morgoth, a Maiar in his own right. He was not reduced to bug eating goo because the orcs voted him off the island. So dumb.
