Very good catch.

So you need high strength to actually move grabbed targets.
An 8 Str wizard can drag 240lbs.
- Half Plate is 40lbs, and maybe 20lbs of other gear.
= 180 lbs for the cleic.

According to this chart. That's the majority of them except..
Bugbear
Dragonborn
Firbolg
Half-Orc
Goliath
Orc

With only the Bugbear and Goliath having minimal weight above 180.

But their speed is reduced to 5ft. if they go over 120 lbs. (8x15, which equals their carrying capacity). If they don't have the grappler feat, they can drag them a whopping 2.5 ft.

That does not leave a lot of room to play with.

So better be a goliath grappler and drag a halfling cleric.

If Spirit Guardians is a concern, I will suggest that you also look at Spike Growth. That was something I enjoyed with my Repelling-Blast using Warlock.

Also radically depends on the movement capability of your party. One of my groups almost always has someone who can move 150+ to complete objectives or swoop up to rooftops. Another group rarely has anyone speedy, just the occasional Rogue with their usual 90 dash.

It's definitely intended to be able to happen at least twice. That's too much of a nerf given other damage dealing options in the new version of the game.
I disagree. I’m with @Horwath. 1/round. I might make it so all such emanation-type spells that can potentially deal damage multiple times are just 1/round.

Spellcasters could still do with a bit of a nerf after all.
