D&D (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

Does anyone on this thread own a hobby store in the affected area? Do we know what the communication to them has been? Because I'm seeing a lot of second hand information and guessing along with typical trashing WotC happening when we just don't know the full story.

Early in the thread we saw that NZ game distributors had directly talked to WotC and told them they wouldn't be reprinting. So they are as "intelligent" as they are going to get, having looked at their options, picked one, and communicated it to game distributors.

So at this point it would be "speaking slowly and intelligently", yet they are still not doing that.
Actually didn't they say at this time there are no plans to reprint? However that doesn't mean they aren't evaluating whether that is a good or bad idea, the logistics of it, etc. But if there are no plans right now that's all they can say at that moment even if it could change in a few hours.

EDIT: Perhaps they have enough in the US and other areas to fulfill the pre-orders and thus don't need o reprint. In other words they are probably at this stage (if the information we received is true) evaluating options to move forward with.

Go read the DDB forums...
unless there are DDB developers on there saying that the cause for the bugs is that they needed to implement the new features in a week, that is not evidence but speculation at best.

I am not looking for evidence that there are bugs, I am looking for evidence that the last minute changes are responsible for them… Even then, they got it done in a week, some bugs notwithstanding, so I still maintain that it was not a large effort to implement this.

My perspective then was that we would see whether it is a large effort or not by whether they would get it implemented in a week or not, the other side was arguing it would take them several weeks and they would miss the deadline because of that. This decidedly did not happen… so yeah, I am comfortable with saying I was correct on that one

I'd also like to hear from anyone else who has actually been affected by this issue.

If they are still working on it it wasn't fully implemented in a week... it's been ongoing.

The fact that spells which had the same name interfered with selection and useability when making a character is pretty strong evidence it was the fault of trying to keep 2014 and 2024 in at the same time. No Dev is going to come out and publicly state what you are asking for.

bugfixes are always ongoing, they rolled it out, that was the criteria. The argument was there was no way for them to get it done and they would miss the date, not that there still might be some bugs left to squash

It was missing basic functionality. By your definition as long as they claimed it was implemented... it was.

I don't know the situation in NZ, but just from a basic understanding of the industry, I can say that there is no way of currently knowing if things will be worked out yet or not - so there is no statement for WotC to put forth - they can't possibly know. The only statement they could put out is "We need to wait and see" and that's the same as waiting and seeing.

There's probably crates of them on their way. Now personally, I wouldn't have cancelled preorders until we see what the stock will be, but that sounds more like someone panicking - though we don't know if they have good information for their decision or not, it's possible that they expect, for whatever reason, to receive none. But that's not the last official statement. There's also the chance that someone in the supply chain wants to scoop them up and sell them on ebay for extra cash, but that seems unlikely. At least not in large quantities.

Wait and see, is all we can say. Information travels fast these days. Books do not.
