Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

Tolkien isn’t the author, Tolkien didn’t write TV shows. He wasn’t even a professional novelist.
That just proves my point that this show isn't Lord of the Rings. Only Tolkien can write Lord of the Rings in any medium since it is his creation. This show is just a bastardized invention being passed off as Lord of the Rings.

It’s not called “Lord of the Rings” it’s called “the Rings of Power”. Tolkien never wrote anything called that. If they did a literal version of the LotR appendix it would be as boring as F because it was never written to be an entertaining TV show.

The Rings of Power is like a piece of popular music that riffs on a piece of classical music (very common). It doesn’t claim to be the piece of classical music.

That’s what “inspired by” means, as it says in the titles.

The last time I read LOTR/Hobbit was 40 years ago. I don't recall much and don't know the lore. The movies and the series were and are made for me and the general public.

Just pretend the movies and the series are different versions in the LOTR multiverse. Or if you prefer they are the Kelvin (Star Trek) timeline of LOTR. Maybe it's Middle-Earth 2, as in the DC multiverse. You'll feel better and sleep at night instead of waking up hating the directors, writers and producers. :p

There is very little fidelity in the show. They've taken rather large liberties with characters, timelines, story details and much more.
Really? Barely noticeable for most of us. And those we do notice, don’t really matter.

It’s not Lord of the Rings. It’s not supposed to be. It’s a set of stories written by others because the original was sold for cold hard sweaty cash. Whether it cleaves to a portion of Tolkien’s notes or not has no bearing on whether I enjoy the show or not.

It’s what we have. I’m glad they’re making a fantasy series with elves and such and it’s cool to imagine how Sauron might have made the rings. If you want to tell a different story then feel free. I see many folks very good at saying what they don’t like about the series but not very good at articulating an alternative.

Sophistry. It's using his world, his characters and his rings of power.

It's only barely noticeable for folks who don't know Middle Earth. For anyone who had read the Silmarillion and other stories, it's glaring.

I’ve read all of them. So I know they would make a terrible TV show. I just want to be entertained. And the Silmarillion is Christopher Tolkien’s work in any case.
I think a very excellent TV show could be made of the Great Tales of the First Age...but those what don't like Rings of Power would not enjoy what making a good TV show would entail.
