D&D (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

you can always argue that it is you who decides, who is and when hostile from your point of view.
This is exactly why I think WotC dropped the term from the 2024 rules, and then I think they just missed the interaction that War Caster would then allow buffing spells to be cast on allies.

You could probably argue that this was technically always possible with 2014 rules by stretching the definition of "hostile"

Sure... in which case this was possible back in 2014 an no one should have any problems with it.

But since people do have issues, note the title of this thread calling it "Cheesy Fondue", I'm going to stick with "hostile" having a meaning which excluded friends, and was removed from two places in the 2024 rules.

More my joke. I wasn't sure if my interpretation was right.

And if it was how cheesy is it?

Apparently only Warcaster changed. I had never noticed the 2014 rules also just said creature that leaves your range.
My post #23 already debunked that, as did @Blue.

Then can the DM decide if a creature who was once an ally but is next to you spooked you and gets injured by your Word of Radiance or something?

These types of statements are ridiculous and people know it.

The thread title nor the OP indicate this is a farce. You wouldn't have called it cheesy if you didn't understand it is... well, sort of cheesy.

And if it was how cheesy is it?
Because everyone understands (hopefully) it isn't RAI, even if it is RAW.

Although there is a hefty helping of chesse on this, as a DM I don't have an issue with allowing it. You are using a feat for it, and a spell slot probably. While it just adds to the potential power level in 2024--I don't see it breaking anything.

It will be more of an issue for groups who can get in long rests often as you can use this to burn through your spell slots more quickly buffing allies, but know you'll rest soon so don't concern yourself with the possible spell slot depletion.

No, you are owner of the spell and only you decide who gets whacked by it.
These types of statements are ridiculous and people know it.
OFC, they are, but when the rules are vague and poorly written, then this issues come up.

Same goes for Verbal components, they are somewhat clearer now than in 2024 but still stupidly vague.

Why cant they just say:

Verbal components are heard within 30ft,
from 30-60ft Perception DC is your spell DC
from 60-90ft Perception in made with disadvantage
90 ft+ you cannot hear Verbal compoennts

2014 Opportunity Attacks says hostile creature.

From 5e SRD: (Combat – 5th Edition SRD)

So my original statement:

This is because Opportunity Attack says a creature leaves your reach, rather than a foe leaves your reach?

was right but I was "corrected" by @ECMO3 by incorrect information. Huh.

I wonder if the confusion is the new DNDBeyond system seems to take you to the 2024 free rule when you hover over the 2014 reference to the rule.

Seems like unintended and clearly not RAI. I would not permit it as a GM.
you need to spend a feat, use a reaction for the round and coordinate it with other players.

Seems fine, spell slot is a spell slot, does not matter if you spend it on damaging/debuffing enemies or buffing/healing allies.
All spells of a same level should be balanced with each other. Right? RIGHT!?

And it could be a good usage of healer with Curewounds.
Just pass by the healer with warcaster to get that heal that you need.
