So far it looks pretty good. Gotta be proud!

I always hesitate about how to create my own heartbreaker: create a large houserules and mods catalog OR start from the ground up and create each elements to my taste.

I actually started with a much more profound change in the rules that was going to use 5E bounded accuracy but taking from BECMI and also creating chains of shifts in class - but that was so much work and was so far from what anyone I play with is used to, I decided to scrap it and perhaps return to it in my retirement in 12 years.

I moved to this approach because even though it is still a lot of work, hewing closer to 5E means we can start playing without it being "done" and finish as we need it.

Here is the Mage class PDF. I removed the Elementalist subclass because it just wasn't coming together, so I stuck with just wizard and sorcerer. I also made sorcerers an INT based casted b/c between bards and warlocks we have enough CHA-based ones.

I followed WotC's lead in changing "Ki" - but rather than "Focus" (which already has a D&D meaning in terms of spell components), I named it "Resolve." I may still change it again if I come up with a different term I like better. And honestly, if a player wanted to call them something else, as long as they worked the same I wouldn't care.

That's kind of my position as well (for now) using 5e allows me to copy-paste most of the rules, modding them here and there if need be. It also offers me an incredible pool of class features I can use for my classes. ie: the Hexblade use a reaction to avoid a hit on a roll of 4+ on a d6 is given to the Rogue when unarmored, and also the the Barbarians Danger Sense. The whole magic item affinity from the Artificer is give to the Mage. The Spell thief from the Arcane Trickster is a main feature of the Warlock, etc

I removed the Favored Enemy ability. Instead, Hunter's Vision (which is a kind of concentration-less hunter's mark-like ability), does increased damage against target creatures from your favored terrain.
