Its PETA. The thing they really didnt like was the end of the movie when Conan was chopping horses down by their front legs.

There's always a mix of rumor, overreaction, and actual incidents of mistreatment when it comes to movies and animal actors, and I never know where one stops and another starts. Like when a horse falls in the movies because someone "shot" it, or "chopped" it's legs, was there actually a dangerous trip involved? How dangerous is dangerous?

They used to use a rope tied the horses legs. Which is much more dangerous to horses than having your shoelaces tied together. The practice was starting to fall out of favour by the 80s, after all, most people who choose to work with animals do so because they like animals, but a lot of the Conan production team were old school.

As for punching a camel, I would be more worried about the human. Arnie isn’t really Conan, and camels are vicious (and have good memories).

Yeah, but my point is that while some films used to do this, it's kind of difficult for the average viewer to discern that particularly by the time this movie came out, and then it just descends into rumor at that point.
