Didn't we just have a thread about D&D being so great and that it helps kids with autism and soldiers with PTSD and stuff like that. Then, D&D is the devil and stealing kids again. C'mon. It is a tool that can be used and pushed to show one angle or another depending on who is talking.

To be fair, it is behind a paywall, which does make it rather hard to read.

But, yeah, this is a fairly perennial issue. LIke the mythical hydra, you cut off one head and two grow. We point out facts, complete with actual direct evidence and people STILL insist that it never happened or it's being misinterpreted or we shouldn't talk about it.

Fortunately, I think, a lot of these things are getting a lot less strident as time goes on.

I understand people not wanting to read an article, especially if it's paywalled. That's fine, I do it all the time!
I'm just not personally convinced it's a very good defense for commenting on something you (general you) didn't read.

Again, too be fair, the issue is hardly one that's new and no one's ever heard of. This has been long documented and discussed. It's been sort of in the news recently because of the increased scrutiny of the history of the hobby. And, Mr. Musk's comment about wanting Hasbro to "burn in Hell" certainly doesn't lend itself towards any sort of rational discussion.

And no,I haven't read the article, but not because it is behind a paywall. It's because there is literally nothing less compelling that the combined words of "D&D" and "Musk."

But oh no! Now you must demand, "Why, then, Reynard, do you comment i. This thread?!?"

That ain't the gotcha you think it is.

I don't care about whatever intersection of D&D and Mysk might occur. But I do care about this community, and I'll show up every time to say, "Can we not?" when I honestly believe a thing threatens to make this place less welcoming and reasonable.

Well, since you are especially concerned about it, why don't you give us the test of the article so we can discuss it?

I presume in much the same way some people pre-judge products that are announced (as opposed to waiting for it to be released and evaluating it based on its actual contents) they immediately want to voice their opinion. (e.g. Dark Sun product gets announced, people immediately comment "I do not care for this product.")

(Less about advancing a specific goal and more of an innate reaction.)
