D&D (2024) No Appendix N Equivalent?

Mothership is very much focused on being only one thing though (like the majority of non-D&D RPGs). So it is perhaps worth pointing out other examples of sci fi horror that are not as well known as Alien.

D&D is more like GURPs though. It’s all things to all people. It might be sci fi horror, it might be Carry on Cleo, and anything in between.
It is interesting to bring Dungeon Crawl Classics into the discussion here: Goodman Games specifically set out to create a game that produced the specific sort of narratives and results to stories as seen in classic pulp fiction. They used Appendix N as the guide to develop the game, to create something thst followed classic fantasy more closely than D&D usually does.

I have. I definitely wouldn’t want my grandchildren reading it!

Always remember, WotC are making products that would not be deemed unsuitable for children.
I wouldn't mind my grandchildren reading Conan as adults and having learned critical tools. If one can get past the astonishingly thick and grotesque racism and misogyny (it really is terrible), it is an interesting historical artifact.

That’s why I said grandchildren, not children! But a large part of the target audience is not going to have the maturity to understand the context, and it is decidedly uncomfortable reading for many who do.

I really like the Moldvay list. The d'Aulaire Myths books were big ones for me as a kid before I even knew about D&D.
