I know this isn't quite in scope of the OP, and I don't know if she's done any recent RPG work, but if I had the budget, I'd hire Laurent Reis in a heartbeat.

Alas, neither Sword World or especially the Fiend Folio were released in the last couple years, so unfortunately not within the scope of this thread …

oh wow totally and shamefully missed that bit. ok, i'd say that out of recent books Electric Bastionland takes the cake. generally just anything that has Alec Sorensen art, like the revised Stygian Library.

Ultraviolet Grasslands. Luka Rejec is so very obviously a Metal Hurlant strip escaped into reality, drawing art that reminds him of home.

I like the art (or most of it) in the various transformers RPG books, but I think that's mostly because I'm a transformers fan and it's mostly comic book art so it's already good.

The current RuneQuest material is top tier when it comes to art. Startling and gorgeous. And anything by Katrin Dirim is incredibly evocative.
