Is it premade characters, or can you make your own? (I suspect it's premade with no ability to make your own characters...which makes this a hardpass for me. I have the Essentials Kit already and that beats this hands down if they don't have character creation...even with their adventures. Id rather have character creation any day over more adventures).

I'm a sucker for starter sets. Even better if they are full games. To me that means character creation, some monsters, treasures and advice in how to build adventures. Pathfinder 1e Beginers Box is a great example.

From what I understand, the Basic Adventures introduce the rules of the game a little at a time, with simpler plots.

The Advanced Adventures incorporate all those rules together into longer, somewhat more complex scenarios.
If they're books of adventures, what are the page counts of those things?

I'm not sure who this product is made for? Starter sets exist to onboard and teach new players+gms your game in a more approachable format.

Anyone getting into Tales of the Valiant has played 5e, and ToV is basically the same game.
