Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Grimmerspace for Starfinder was funded in 2019. We've gotten a few PDFs of work in progress, but that's about it. Last update was in March.
Ouch! I was wondering if that was out; I wasn't interested, but the big names made me think it would happen. Surprised to see it's in this state currently.

I came very close to backing that, having adored the stories it's based on, but the feature creep on that was unreal and I got cold feet at the last minute.

At this point, I'm watching it like a pile-up on the side of the road. It's a little shocking how much of it is still undone, given that the source material is very simple and delivering the core product (S&W settings and adventures based on a handful of short stories) seems like it could be done much faster than it has been.

I do hope you get it. If it turns out well, I look forward to giving them my money, but very glad to have not paid up-front.
Same as you. I almost pledged but then thought "I'll just pick it up at retail."

Mine is a small one but was still disappointing.

Lifted: Vault 01 is basically a zine-length "idea book" for a supers game along the lines of shows like Project Power or the like. It had some fairly grandiose stretch goals, but when do they not?

  • Started on 17 February 2021.
  • $1000 asked, funded to $3000+. No one is getting rich here, but a decent enough chunk of change to write a magazine, basically.
  • Finally ships 15 November 2022. And it... there. Reads like a first draft of someone's notes for a game.
I like the author as a person but this was super disappointing.
And then he went on to do Lifted Vol 1 for Cortex Prime that's nearing 2 years overdue. It appeared to be in an early design/playtest phase last I saw, but recent updates have been more hidden. The positive is that Mad Jay never stops talking up these projects and seems to communicate frequently, but just doesn't seem able to commit to a design and get it done.

Coming up to ten years now for Legacy, Kevin Rolfe's adventure collection for Squadron UK. I pulled out of this one before it closed, but a friend didn't.

The most annoying part is that it was due to include The Lancelot Caper, Marcus L. Rowland's legendary unpublished Golden Heroes adventure, which was originally intended to be put out by Games Workshop.

Rolfe went silent five years ago, after tossing a few unfinished files to his backers.

Ernest Gary Gygax Jr.'s Marmoreal Tomb Campaign Starter. THIS HAS NOW DELIVERED. However, it was funded in mid 2015. It was supposed to deliver in March of 2016 and we were told in the Kickstarter that most of it had been written. That...was not accurate. It didn't complete and ship until mid 2023, and even that only happened because a professional company bailed them out. And ,they never delivered on all of their goals, most importantly they never provided a 5e conversion of the game. As far as I can tell, they lost interest in delivering on that goal, as they never even reached out to the many people who volunteered to convert it to 5e so they could fulfill on that goal.

My own Kickstarter, Six-Hack was/is overdue because I grossly underestimated how hard handling most everything (except art and layout) by myself would be. BUT the final rules have been delivered, including a setting and adventure. Only the map is outstanding (delayed by a comedy of errors consisting of computer failure and other issues), but Dyson Logos has stepped up to help me with that (may the gods bless him).

Timothy Kleinert's second edition of The Mountain Witch. Estimated delivery of 2018, last update in January 2019. The original delays were caused by a major project at Kleinert's day job, but there's been radio silence since the January 2019 update, despite it promising monthly updates.

What’s nice is you’re so clear and transparent about it all. And available.

I'm also led to believe that the finished product was not great. I'm a member of a lot of buy/sell communities online. There are many of these on secondhand offer right now (being sold on by disappointed backers/buyers) and almost none of them are selling.

It's fine. Maps are strong. Background lore is strong. Dungeon is fine. Pretty extensive and it would take a long time to get through all this content. It doesn't blow me away but thought was put into it and it's fine.
