How about the physical and fire damage from Meteor Swarm? Those are listed separately.

Nah cos it’s still meant to be all part of one big thing. I might call for separate saves if someone gets struck by more than one meteor though (even if the damage isn’t added together).

I think with magic missile it’s that each missile can be targeted separately.

The only reason that magic missile is separate missiles is because you can aim them at different targets. If you weren't able to do that, it would read "does 3d4+3 to the target." Against one target it is no different than Ice Storm or Meteor Swarm which have separate sources of damage under a single spell.

I err on the side of 3 separate checks- that's how it used to work in older editions, and so much of DnD is built on legacy and tradition; might as well make use of it if you're unsure of how to go (and if want to lean on old rules).

JC has made a bit of a habit of confusing people with Magic Missile. I believe he ruled both that it was 3 separate concentration saves if hit by 3 magic missiles and that it was only a single death save vs all 3 of those missiles (or it may have been the other way round).

Rolling 7d4+7 has always just felt better to me than (1d4+1)x7

no amount of d4 rolling will make feeling of rolling a d4 good or better(than something).

This is why I have 12-sided and 8-sided d4's now. I hate those little pyramidal bar stewards!!

My d4 problem is that I have some which you read from the top and others that you read from the bottom and sometimes they all get used together which can mean working out what the results are a bit of a nightmare.

I use d8 always, 5-6-7-8 = 1-2-3-4

While by rule I'm pretty sure that MM only creates one save, we've always house ruled it to be one save per missile. We've never found the spell all that useful, so this gives it the niche of "concentration breaker."
