Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

Yeah, I had forgotten and looked it up again. Kind of a dark, twisted paladin.

I'd still like to see...the opposite. A Sir Galahad sort of beacon-of-purity in a dark and scary world.

Something that chaotic creatures just hate.
I get that its not a Galahad, I just said it was a template for a Paladin, not the thing itself.

I think we all agree that the weirder Kelsey gets, the better. I love the new Delver and Duelist classes, which don't really correspond to anything in established D&D tradition, and more power to them.
I do like these but I find some of the other classes with more offbeat names to be a bit jarring when they are paired alongside classes with more straightforward archetype names.

Oh, yes, I got that. I was only saying why that version doesn't scratch my itch.

It's tricky to design a class where a flaw is meant to serve as a counterweight to a powerful feature, but I'm liking the idea of a character who is so intrinsically good/lawful that chaotic creatures can sense it and react badly to it. Ideas:
  • Has an impact on reaction rolls with chaotic creatures, such as a roll modifier and or a new table.
  • Modifier to morale rolls and outcomes.

These other classes were largely intended to be setting specific characters, not broad archetypes.

It's not a paladin, it's a Knight of St. Ydris, who have a very specific place in the Gloaming of Cursed Scroll #1.

I am with you on this
I just bought some minis for my upcoming new Wyrdling character. It is a concept I have always loved but something that you almost never see in a game.

With martial I don't know what it is that I feel like we are missing. We have a monk (that we don't know anything about yet) we have the green knight( probably a druidic paladin but who knows). Our spell blad only has access to witch spells so no flashy combat spells, the delver is a great explorer, the sea wolf is the tough vibe of the barbarian if not the combat vibe, the dualist is a great social swordman, we have a mounted calvary type character, an assassin, a mounted archer. I kinda think that we should try to keep the warrior as the main damage dealing martial character.

As for a spell caster I think that a rune scribe would be amazing (long lasting buff spells) or an artificer, maybe a psion. There is a 3rd party shaman which is ok and has a unique vibe as well as a necromancer which is unique and fun to play. The problem with spell casters is that so much of their power comes from spells that they end up feeling mechanical similar just with different spell choices.
