Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

So with the death that is not a problem in our games since we use the res at camp options (our game is a dark souls esq game).

Now they are introducing NPCs that can grant you talents in the gma book so I could see something like that being used to buff your pet up or like you said when you roll a 2 again level him up.

Don't forget you could also roll a 12 and choose to pick it.

Sorry where is this found?
The stat block for the basilisk is shown on shadowdarkling character creator once you get the pet. It will also be in cursed scrolls 4 once that is out.
If you want to look at it just make a character then set it to edit so you can choose the talent. Once you do that your nee basilisk will be shown

That is very close to the pit fighter. They get hp from hitting people, the ability to just not die a few times, advantage on con and the ability to just take no damage.

The sea wolf gets a 20 AC of you spend your action defending, hit points on enemy kills and the ability to just choose to not take damage a few times.

I was picturing something along the lines of...
  • Reduce all damage by the modifier of your worse mental attribute (so -3 if you have a -3 modifier)
  • When you take damage from another character, in the following round you have advantage attacking them
  • Advantage on rolls to move another creature, or to resist being moved

Kelsey on the livestream seemed unsure of how to incorporate rune magic into Shadowdark, so at the moment, she doesn't seem fired up about the idea.

A 5E-style artificer seems way too high magic for her and Shadowdark, although an alchemist would probably work.

At this moment, I would bet on a Conan-style barbarian and either a necromancer or an alchemist, but I think we've gone through most of the spellcaster archetypes, given that "druid" spells are being added to neutral wizards in the River of Night issue of Cursed Scroll.
Again, I think that something like a psion/psychic/mystic would fit pretty well with Shadowdark, especially given the weird fantasy that inspires Sword & Sorcery.

Out of curiosity, how does that impact play? Are players too bold and less careful? Do they "cheat/cheese" using knowledge gained from a failed battle? Does it still feel meaningful despite death being a speedbump?

What are the weird fantasy and sword and sorcery inspirations for psionics are you are thinking of? As I understand it, AD&D psionics were inspired by a singular author, much in the way D&D's magic system was "inspired" by Vance.

Psionics may have been inspired by a single author but fantasy characters with psychic mystical powers was not. However, “psionics” has become much a shorthand term for various psychic power tropes. These were very much a part of weird fantasy.
