D&D 5E Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

I use our older "dumb" TV to display Maps, so I have to use an HDMI cable. It's a bit annoying but it is what it is. One day I'd love to rip the screen out of its frame so I can lie it flat on the table, but it would take up most of the space, so that's probably not that practical ...

I've only run it from my laptop myself, displaying wirelessly on a TV also depends on your setup. I did get it to work on an older TV with a Roku device that plugs into your HDMI slot on your TV which might be another option. That or buy a roll of duct tape to affix your cable to the floor to try to make it drunk proof. :)
I just picked up an Ativa 25' HDMI cable from Office Max/Depot for ~$15. I'm definitely going to look into drunk proofing the cable just not sure how I'm going to do it so it's not in the way when not in use.

We talked about doing this, maybe build a game table, but for the amount of time we actually play its just not worth the investment. In all seriousness without some good planning and design it might not last too long for many reasons.

Does anyone know why D&DB defaults to referencing the free rules instead of the PHB in spots when printing out character sheets even when you have the 2024 PHB, DMG and MM?

Not specifically, as I never print out character sheets, so I checked to see if you could toggle them off within either the character management sheet, or account sharing, and they don't seem to appear in either. Very curious.

This is second hand, but one of the players in my game who is trying his hand at DMing for the first time, decided to use DNDB to make pre-gens and was very confused by it and started asking me about weapon mastery and stuff (we play 2014) and why it seemed more complicated and some class stuff was different than how we played. We quickly discovered that as a total newbie to DNDB and the distinctions between 2014 and 2024 in general, he was failing to recognize how to toggle between versions.

This is probably 100% user error and a use case of 1, but at least one unexperienced person found it confusing and ended up with a mix of 2014 vs. 2024 stuff.

If I had to make a completely uninformed guessimate... a lot of stuff in DDB when doing searches and things look to come up in alphabetical order. So perhaps since 'Free Rules' comes before 'Player's Handbook' that it defaults to that order whenever multiple versions of the same thing appear?

I'm probably completely wrong, but it's the first thing I thought of.

I'm the GM and the one who has the master tier subscription and bought the (3) 2024 core books and shared them with the group. On the very first page under character preferences all the players toggled off all sources and partnered content so I'd assume that would only allow them to use the '24 PHB to make PCs. Probably WotC or whoever just being too lazy to clean things up. Because it references the Free Rules in spots and the PHB in others.

I would assume that because anything that appears in the Free Rules and the 5E24 PHB should be exactly the same... they've got it programmed to default and show the version that they know all players have access to, the Free Rules, when those rules come up. And then it'd be only stuff that doesn't appear in the Free Rules but do appear in the PHB which are the ones that get listed as PHB. Again, just guessing. Could be wrong.

That was what I was thinking too, but it's annoying as some of that stuff on the character sheets prints out so small that if we need to read it out of the PHB it doesn't make it easy to find. Further I dont know a way to print out the free rules so what's the point of listing page numbers for it.
