R.A. Salvatore's next novel will focuse of R.A. Salvatore reveals his new D&D novel — and why he wanted to follow Drizzt’s daughter Breezy, daughter of the Forgotten Realms' most famous drow ranger. Announced today via Polygon, Salvatore's next novel is titled The Finest Edge of Twilight and will feature Breezy as she tries to become a Master of Dragons. The book will also feature Dahlia Sin'felle, a recurring character from Drizzt's past. Although the book was previously announced last year, the title and synopsis (seen below) are brand new, along with the October 7, 2025 release date.

The new novel is meant to kick off a new saga for Salvatore and the Forgotten Realms, with Breezy looking to step out of her parents' shadows. She has appeared as a minor character in other books and was supposed to star in a long delayed WebToon online comics series.

The Finest Edge of Twilight will be released on October 7.

Breezy Do’Urden is more than just the heir of legendary heroes. For the past decade, she has dedicated herself to the study of combat, magic, and more recently, to the elusive Way of Shadow, honing her body and mind into a keen and singular weapon. But even after years of effort, her parents, Drizzt and Cattie-Brie, struggle to see Breezy as more than just their little girl. Determined to prove them wrong, Breezy takes on the most intense challenge she can: to fight her way to becoming a Master of Dragons at the renowned Monastery of the Yellow Rose.

Meanwhile, in the shadows of Westbridge, Dahlia Sin’felle plots her rise to power. Once a broken soul, Dahlia has few friends and fewer options to make her way through the world. But Dahlia believes she has discovered a new path to restored glory: the transformative charm and cunning of a vampire. With every step toward immortality, she consolidates her influence, building an empire from the darkness, even as she contends with her own monstrous instincts — and her complicated past with Breezy’s family.

As Breezy fights her way through the shadows, and Dahlia follows her dark ambitions, both seek to find their place in a world that can be both brutal and beautiful. No matter the challenges, their divergent paths are forged by the same choice: their fates will be theirs and theirs alone.

Basically given up on his goddess who's done nothing but bend over backwards for him is my biggest gripe. Plus, he's more monk now than ranger.

He's just kind of been written into a corner. He's ultra-powerful. Has a family. And is now trying to be more Zen then adventure seeker. Everyone grows up sometime I guess.

Though again I really dislike that he's basically given up on his goddess after she the whole reason he got his friends/family back and kept him alive his whole life more or less.

Yeah I never liked the whole turning on his Goddess thing, or her wanting to kill orc babies which didn't fit her at all.

Drizzt is just kind of there now compared to all the secondary characters, sometimes it feels like he's included just to say it's a Drizzt novel.

I think Salvatore kind of made some choices with Drizzt's story like that left the character in a place he can't easily pull him back out of, so he focuses more on other characters now.

Breezy is an easy solution to that in a host of ways, and what involvement Drizzt will have is most as a Dad, turf Salvatore has experience with.

Why did he turn his back on her?

Why did he turn his back on her?

I think it mainly has to do with trying to be more of a Buddhist philosophy type thing. Again, being more Monk than Ranger.

Plus he's having a real issue with his god being okay with killing Orcs and Goblins. The goddess has switched stances on this a couple of times, and as has Drizzt. I'm not really sure why Salvatore decided to go this route but as with several things in the past that Drizzt has said and done, I think it's handed down from WotC.

Let's compare the synopsis of Finest Edge of Twilight & Fallbacks: Dealing With Dragons to explore the art of writing a synopsis thar draws you in vs one that does not.

First Finest Edge of Twilight:

"Breezy Do’Urden is more than just the heir of legendary heroes. But Dahlia believes she has discovered a new path to restored glory: the transformative charm and cunning of a vampire. As Breezy fights her way through the shadows, and Dahlia follows her dark ambitions, both seek to find their place in a world that can be both brutal and beautiful. No matter the challenges, their divergent paths are forged by the same choice: their fates will be theirs and theirs alone."

Now Fallbacks: Dealing With Dragons

"The Fallbacks return for another adventure in Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms!

The Fallbacks might not be Faerun’s first choice for saving the day, but if the money’s right they’ll get the job done. In this ragtag band of adventurers, each member plays a vital role: Tess the disciplined elven thief; Anson the courageous fighter; Lark the cunning bard; Baldric the wily cleric; Cazrin the inquisitive wizard; and Uggie, their pet monster who eats garbage. Squint a little and they’re the heroes Faerun needs.

Fresh off a harrowing journey into the infinite dungeon of Undermountain and the defeat of a powerful undead lich (with the help of a giant hungry worm or two), the adventurers are now a proven and dedicated team, ready for a new adventure which will take them to strange new realms."

The first draws you in, talks most about this book, and has a variety of story hooks. The second just lists the team members and their previous adventure into of this books adventure. The only hook is strange new Realms line, that is it.
