The Fall Guy is really good too.I dunno, I thought he was pretty good in Bladerunner 2049.
I’ve been a Ryan Gosling fan since Half Nelson, so I’m pretty excited by the announcement.
I haven’t seen that yet, even though it was filmed in my city. I’m keen to though. The Fall Guy is really good too.
He had a lot of great intensity in Drive, too. He'd probably need to speak more in Starfighter, but I could definitely see his Drive character behind the stick of a starship.I dunno, I thought he was pretty good in Bladerunner 2049.

I have a hard time with mainstream actors being cast in Star Wars movies, I have trouble suspending disbelief to see the character as opposed to the actor. The only two I can remember offhand from Episode 4 were Peter Cushing and Alec Guiness, but it was years later until I learned that they had a long list of credits well before that movie. I don't even think James Earl Jones was all that well known at that point, and Dr Strangelove was probably the role he was most known for. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fischer, and Harrison Ford were far from household names at the time. I saw Gossling in the Fall Guy and while I didn't hate him but didn't like him enough to finish the movie. I thought the worst part about the sequel and prequel trilogies was the casting and acting, and the scripts. Maybe he'll play a great part. This might be a moot point as many of the projects announced for Star Wars get cancelled so who knows if this will ever see the light of day. I think SW has become over exposed and I just can't get excited for the franchise anymore. He’s a great actor.![]()

Pretty much my point, and when they do cast more prominent actors such as Forrest Whitaker, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Benicio Del Toro, they are usually smaller supporting rolls. Which my opinion is that Ryan Gosling maybe should be a supporting actor rather than the lead. I had the same issue with Robert Pattinson in the Batman; I couldn't get passed the actor and concentrate on the character. Also, I’d say the Disney films have generally cast unknowns in the lead roles…
Adam Driver and Felicity Jones are big names, and several of those others are known from TV, or, in the case of Ridley, by her family. You’re original comment made it sound like the opposite… ‘is this the best they could do’ gives the impression you wanted a bigger star.

The original Star Wars had a largely unknown cast - because it had a tiny budget.
