Star Wars: Starfighter

Not that big. Felicity Jones was probably the biggest.

Can't recall any blockbuster movies before Star Wars any of them were in. Not as a leads anyway.
"Blockbuster" is not the only thing actors can be known for. Some of them do proper acting.

Star Wars also has a tradition of casting British actors. Which means they are a lot better known in Britain than elsewhere. Even David Prowse was a well known name in 1970s Britain.

Thats Britain. Worlds a big place.

None of the main actors in the Disneybmovies were big name. Some had well regarded roles in obscure material at best.

Probably not as obscure as OT 3.

Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac were huge. And there is a massive list of big name veterans in cameos, such Max Von Sydow. And that's just the first one.

As you say, the world is a big place, if you live far enough from the bright centre it's to be expected to be out of touch..

What was there biggest movie pre TFA?

Huge may be over stating it. 2014 some Italian movie and 60 odd million combined for two others.

Lots of roles in movies no one's heard of.

Oscar Isaac Outcome Number 3 in Bourne Legacy. 2012

Lots of roles huge once again .......

Correction: lots of roles in movies you haven't heard of.

Going by box office most people probably haven't heard of them.

Box office is somewhat objective.

If you like fruity beer, bubbly wine and Cannes yeah you may have heard of these movies.

Not exactly conductive to claiming they're huge. Even now post Star Wars they're not exactly tearing up the box office.

They're very skilled actors but most of them aren't huge. Even by today's lack of star power standards. They're not at the level of say Zendaya or Timothy Chalmet.

I won't mention Tom Cruise, Rock, various MCU stars.

You will find the best actors in the theatre, not in action blockbusters, where all you have to do is turn up, grin at the camera, and walk away with a big paycheck. No point in actually acting when people just turn up to watch the big explosions.

Yeah, but you're not touting them as the best actors, you're touting them as big names, which they weren't particularly back then.

They are big names to people who know about acting. I guess they may not be to people who only go to see the latest computer generated blockbuster.

I will freely admit I know nothing about current popular music. But I don’t try and claim my ignorance is universal.

I'm sorry, but if you think Felicity Jones was the biggest actor involved with the Disney Star Wars movies, your perspective is completely skewed, to the point of being deeply unhelpful to this argument.

Both Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver were much better-known "up and coming" actors, and you seem to discounting Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hammill entirely, which is pretty wild.

As for "blockbuster movies" - with young actors that's usually the case - it's a very tiny subset of young actors that are in multiple blockbusters. So that's not really relevant or helpful.

Also, I’d say the Disney films have generally cast unknowns in the lead roles…

Daisy Ridley
John Boyega
Kelly Marie Tran
Adam Driver

Felicity Jones
Diego Luna

Alden Ehrenreich
Sorry, but this is just inaccurate. Only Ridley and Tran were "unknowns" from that list, in the Hollywood sense of "unknown", which appears to be how you're using the term. Even having been in smaller or indie movies, but ones which were critically acclaimed and which were actually shown in cinemas means you're not an "unknown". It seems the logic you're applying is "unless you were in a blockbuster in a major role you're an 'unknown'", which is... not a good usage of the term.

Up-and-coming would be accurate for most of those (Diego Luna is a highly experienced actor and was even then, just not in English-language, so it would be fair to say "up and coming in Hollywood").

I have a hard time with mainstream actors being cast in Star Wars movies, I have trouble suspending disbelief to see the character as opposed to the actor.
I'm sure that's true for you but I think it's fair to say that probably isn't true for the vast majority of people who watch movies. So I'm not sure that it's particularly relevant, and insulting him for an exceptionally good performance in a relatively good movie is truly silly.
