City adventure ideas?

some ideas I've used for some changes of pace
  • A secret cult of good-aligned folk, out to do good deeds in secret.
  • A legal sporting event which is honest, and fair... and thinks the PCs look like good participants.
  • Questionable goals from a patron. Once they are done, the benefit of them becomes visible as a particularly unreasonable guildmaster is revealed to be a spy or chaos cultist or other form of lowlife aimed for a rapid shortening of his life.
  • Extraction of several books of magic from the home of a deceased notable wizard, whose family are hyper religious, and opposed to use of wizardly magic... they're planning a book burning.

I've used The Warriors at least three times over the years. Maybe more, but 3 I can remember for certain.

Thing about a city is there are so many conflicts and jurisdictions that can generate plot hooks.
Some examples:
  • Law - in a fantasy this can get complex, you have guild law, civil, church, nobles and so on.
  • Magic - Religion vs Mage, Schooled vs Unschooled, the casting of magic in general, dumping of magical waste.
  • Weapons - Are bows and swords allowed or limited to certain groups.
