Those guys look like they just put their surfboards down for the photo shoot.

Actually the modern 'ivy league hair cut' is a historical Viking fashion. The Norse were known for their hair cuts that were short at the nape and around the ears, but long in the front.

Before the Viking Period, most Norse men were clean shaven with short hair. The cleancut fashion ultimately, indirectly, derives from Roman customs. During the Viking Period, beards became more fashionable, but many men continued the modern cleanshaven 'surfer' look. Among those who wore beards, the beards were always carefully groomed and often manicured such as a goatee. Certain prominent individuals were reported to braid their beards.

For the wizard 'elves', the beardless appearance works fine.

D&D spell illustration challenge: day 5: Banishment.

Sending back demons to the abyssal planes is why, my Lord, you keep a well-paid court wizard in your service. Speaking of this...

Prompt: The scene is set in a medieval castle courtyard. A wizard stands firm in his crimson robes with gold embroideries, bald and clean-shaven, his scalp marked with an intricate tattoo. In his outstretched hand, he grips a golden pendant representing a pentacle. It flares with sudden, blinding light. With a thunderous crack, space above the enemy creature tears open—a jagged, shrieking rift suspended in the air. Wind roars as the creature is yanked upward, limbs flailing, drawn helplessly into the howling portal.

Commentary: none. This is exactly what I had in mind. It would really fit well in a RPG book.

This picture is a great example of the biggest problem I have with MANY image generators right now. Since they are all trained on existing (stolen) artwork, you tend to have existing biases baked in when asking for a picture of a woman:
  • boob windows / boob mail are always included; even when I say things like "practical" armor or "fully covered" I still get images with exposed upper chests or stomachs
  • no woman is over 30, regardless if you put "mature" or "older" - I've even put "in her 40s" and I still get 20-somethings
  • always white by default

Interesting, the hands are better, but still look funny.
Yeah, the "magical effects" seem as if to break up the hands into separate areas, then the AI gets 'confused' about what parts are hands or not, or where they should be.

The weirdest thing is. These faces are great, photographically realistic. So its 'AI image model' clearly 'knows' how to generate faces. But then I add to the rest of the prompt, the single word 'floating' (Norse elves typically float in the sky like patterns of sunlight do, like sunbeams and bright linings of clouds do). The new word causes the AI to 'forget' how to generate faces. It loses access to all of its face data (heh, presumably from images of people who arent hovering in the sky). Suddenly, it seems to start from scratch, and the faces are a grotesque, sketchy, picasso-like juxtaposition of mismatching eyes and so on.
