Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

I have seen it. I really liked it. I am a lifelong Supes fan (including a Superman tattoo, so I guess I'll be a fan past lifelong) and felt that the film and Corenswet did the character justice. I like that it focused on his humanity, including how that can sometimes mean making mistakes and failing.

The "big secret" was not really a surprise, of course, but was fine. Perhaps my favorite moment in the film was when Clark and Lois had a heart to heart while the Justice Gang fought the "interdimensional imp" in the background.

As an aside: my (19 year old_ daughter was FURIOUS at the brief depiction of Supergirl. She loves the Melissa Benoist version of the character and was extremely put off by the "party girl" version.
Have her read the source comic, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It will make much more sense.

Does he win a single fight? I guess he makes Ultraman fall into a black hole near the end, after being beaten by him pretty repeatedly. Even the Godzilla, others beat it for him.

My son and I saw it earlier and loved it. It is a solid 8/8.5.

It had heart and I was so happy to be done with the Snyder grim & gritty nonsense.

Kids and I went to see it, wanting to like it (DC is our preferred universe over Marvel), but...naah. Felt disjointed, some abandoned plotlines, very packed...eh. I understand lots of people are going to like Krypto, but we felt he was WAY overused. None of the funny parts really landed for us, and it just lacked that one special moment, you know? I think the leads were very good, but let down by the script; I'd totally watch a Pelican Brief-type movie starring Lois Lane. Someone above mentioned it was too casual about all the scientific breakthroughs, and I know understand what they meant by that.

How is Lex not dead after being attacked by Krypto??? Dog is strong enough to hurt Superman! Hoult was also good as Luthor, though.

One thing stuck out to me in particular, and maybe I am the only person bothered by this, but...wow, what an about-face regarding Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van! For all the people who feel Man of Steel did Pa Kent dirty, this was much, much worse...and I am not sure how it added to the plot!

Quick reaction version… maybe more detail later.

I liked it. Didn’t check my watch once. It was a fun film.

I do have criticisms though. If you’re going to use the iconic theme just use it just not a worse part of it. And Supes lacked gravitas. He’s the straight man; the characters around him can be the comedians. He doesn’t need to wisecrack. Same with Luther. He was fine but lacked gravitas. Mark Strong would have been a better choice.

Loved Krypto. He is literally my dog plus superpowers.

But those criticisms aside, it was a fun movie. He’s no Reeve (but who is?) but he does embody the goodness of the character, if not the earnestness.

My favourite Lois Lane. Guy Gardner was fantastic and funny. Maybe my favourite character in the movie. And also clearly way more powerful than Supes!

People said it would be crowded with superheroes.... but characters like Hawkgirl, the Engineer, etc. were side characters at most. They didn't crowd anything. A couple of lines each.

I think it was great. It just maybe needed some more breathing space. Too much in too short a time (but then I hate long movies).

Weirdly my wife hated the mad scientist aspect of Lex… that’s always been part of his character to me, but she’s only seen the movies. And in those all he’s ever really done is find a Kryptonite and use it against Superman. But I loved that side of his character.

Or make a Superman clone… again…

Yeah, Superman clones or variations of are getting a bit tired. It was obvious from the start. It’s not like they didn’t do the exact same thing in Superman IV, the Superman & Lois TV show, the animated movies, etc. Plus non-Lex generated clones like in Superman III, or Lex making clones of Zod like in Bats v Supes. So the twist was no twist to anybody who has seen Superman movies before.

And Krypto. Did I mention him before? Well here he is again. Loved. Krypto.

Overall—loved it. Ranking:

Superman The Movie
Superman II
Man of Steel
Superman 2025
Superman III
Batman vs Superman
Justice League
Superman IV

Where's Superman Returns on that list?
