Commentators for sporting events do this a lot. Its even worse when they pretend like they do know the topic, they clearly dont. Like how the NFL announcers have to pretend they know all the TV show line up on the same channel they are forced to promote.

And I think that’s what bugged me about it. It was a glib comment but sounded kinda derisive. Anyways, Olympics be over.

It's like a radio presenter--they're not supposed to have dead air. But there's not always anything important to say at that moment, so they just talk.

Yeap, and at least this Mortal Combat topic was relevant to what was happening in the actual event. Its when topic drift happens you hear some interesting things in the banter.
