Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

Irony so thick you can cut it with a knife.

No one seems to care for the new WotC takes in the settings anywhere online.

Theres no real buzz no one's raving about them and they've left virtually no cultural impact vs the originals.

Spelljammer in particular seems to be widely regarded as a whiff.

There was lots of buzz for Spelljammer when it first launched, actually. But it got mixed reviews and was quickly overshadowed by the controversies about lacking ship combat rules and of course the hadozee debacle... and then a few months later by the OGL debacle.

The setting could be great but it was a victim of some bad choices and terrible timing.

Let's say the interest in Spelljammer is more in the land to be built on than in what is already built. It is the freest sandbox for D&D.

We shouldn't be surprised if there is a future sourcebook like Tasha's Guide because the last UA article was about wizard subclasses.

* Maybe the "First War" between Nature-masters and Nature-benders was not only in Athas but also in other worlds within the Athaspace and maybe even in other next wildspaces. This could allow possible spin-off with other worlds with an Athasian-like civilitation.

It didn't lack ship combat rules - its ship combat rules were lacking.

In that they were terrible and didn't really work without a DM essentially throwing them out and making up their own.

Obligatory plug for Limithron's Guide to Naval Combat for 5E.

Limithron, of course, is better known as the publishers of Pirate Borg, which uses a version of the same rules.
