That scene a few minutes in… I was not ready for that.

I haven’t read the books, so I don’t know what to expect. Definitely lighter in tone to Game of Thrones.

I like the smaller scale feel to it compared to GoT and HotD.
I loved both those shows, don’t get me wrong, but only having a single plot line to follow was a welcome change of pace.

It should be lighter in tone and smaller in scale; that's the appeal of the stories -- a look at the common people, not continent-wide political machinations. Read the stories; they aren't long and they are worth it.

Early feedback is encouraging; I won't be picking it up to watch until most of the episodes drop so I don't have to activate the streaming service for more than a month.

Fair enough. I suspect non-book readers will miss out on Dunk's internal monologue which IMO adds a lot, unless the show figured out a way to insert that in a rational fashion.

But heck, he's thick as a castle wall, so maybe you're not missing much.

I love the Dunk & Egg stories, they're really fun adventures without quite as much of the horrors of Game of Thrones. Even though it's from the perspective of a young barely-a-knight, it's still got enough politics and intrigue to feel like a GoT book. Sir Duncan the Tall has a refreshing moral strength.

Can not recommend the books enough, easily my favourite story by G.R.R.M. They also are a relatively short read.
