I have seen the term "midquel" being used.

"Interquel" is one I recall having been used in this context too.

Aside from Wash, I felt that River’s storyline is pretty played out (not to mention not “the kid” anymore).

In voice acting, age is much less relevant.

This is the big problem, in my mind. Firefly was a moment in time, lightning in a bottle. There wasn't something ridiculously engaging about the world in which it was set, nor were the ship and crew fascinating new character archetypes. It was the chemistry of the actors, combined with engaging dialogue and situations. This is why I'm always hesitant when people talk about a Babylon 5 reboot -- it wasn't the universe or the story that made it magical, it was the actors, their chemistry, and the specific script (we still have JM Straczynski, but that's 1 of 3 and who knows if he can mentally un-move-on). Same reason why the Friends cast resisted any revivals and only ended up with a cast reunion.

When JMS was talking about a CW reboot, I asked if he was planning to have a writer's room, and he said no ... and that kinda annoyed me? Like ... admittedly what makes Babylon 5 pretty unique and cool is how singular a vision it is (within the constraints of being a TV series), but I'd actually have preferred a reboot try and incorporate a more diverse selection of voices just to offer some contrast so that the reboot doesn't feel like just a do-over.

True, but my impression of JMS from what came out through the course of the original show's airing was that he was never much of a team player, especially with this show.

Though he did realize that he needed some help, which is why Harlan Ellison was on board as "continuity consultant."

Ah, y'all worry too much.

It's not a done deal that this animated Firefly will make it to the screen, the Buffy redo didn't.

If it does . . . it could suck, it could be mid, it could be great. Just like anything.

I'll stay cautiously optimistic, I'll watch if/when it comes out, and if it sucks . . . then I'll kvetch. Wasted energy to do so before hand.

On the scale of human endeavor, it could be said this entire site is "wasted energy". So, folks really should not let that stop them.

I don't know . . . art is important, games are important. Helps us all get through life.

But getting so wrapped up in fandom that just the announcement of a product causes all sorts of storm and thunder . . . I mean, yeah, that's fandom for you (any fandom), but I feel like it drains our positive energy.

Fans are passionate, to be sure. And yeah, that's not always in a positive way. And I know I'm pushing back against human nature.

I suppose it boils down to positive thinking versus negative thinking. I'm so very tired of all of the negativity in fan spaces.

Just trying to get folks to try and approach things more positively . . . but yeah, doomed effort.
